SKY HD: Better than seeing

The Sky televison logo. Image courtesy of sky.com.Recently the Joanne and I had Sky+ HD installed and it’s really blown me away! Previously I’d only seen High Definition (HD) TV on a few occasions – mainly in pubs when it’s in the background and not the primary reason for being in a pub.

The quality and clarity of the picture is really amazing. When I first compared the HD channels with their standard definition equivalents, it was like I’d pulled my eyes out, given them a good clean and polish, and then stuck them back into their sockets.

…you might start to question if HD lets you see too much!

When watching golf, it was though I was there in person – stood just a few feet behind Rory McIlroy at the 2010 PGA Championship at Whistling Straights. And when watching a football game it was though I could see the blades of grass on the pitch at Brisbane Road as Bristol Rovers lost to Charlton in League 1. In fact, when you can see the bloodshot lines in Arsene Wenger’s tired eyes, or count the individual hairs on the head of Andy Gray, you might start to question if HD lets you see too much!

I can confidently say that Sky HD is better than seeing. By that I mean that previously, when I’ve been at a football game, you can only see so much. You can see the ball, the fouls, the goals, the off-the-ball incidents and the players close-up, but the camera angles and clarity of HD lets you see so much more. The things you would normally miss, the small details, that even if you were there at the game you wouldn’t see or notice – HD brings it to you.

…the camera angles and clarity of HD lets you see so much more.

Overall it’s been a fantastic purchase, and with the amount of American sports I now have access to, it’s also great value for money. Can’t wait for the new NFL season to start! Here’s hoping that after a period of time my eyes don’t become too accustomed to the quality and that the awesomeness of HD doesn’t wear off.
