Ting Tings & Spencer McGarry Season

Jules and Katie of The Ting Tings. Courtesy of thetingtings.comTwo songs I want to share with you that have caught my attention of late. First up is the new track from The Ting Tings due to be released on 10 October and mixed by Calvin Harris. Then a track that I’ve been holding on to for a couple of months from Wales’ very own Spencer McGarry Season.

Hands – The Ting Tings

The Ting Tings are a British indie pop duo composed of Jules De Martino and Katie White. I was a big fan of their successful debut album We Started Nothing and was worried that they might fall victim to the curse of ‘the difficult 2nd album’.

Hands is the first track to be released from their forthcoming Kunst album and I stumbled across it a couple of weeks ago. Although I was initially skeptical about the ‘very now’ retro ’80s sound – the track has really grown on me and raised my expectations for the album. Bring it on!

Great Enemies – Spencer McGarry Season

I first heard the Spencer McGarry Season on Huw Stephens’ Introducing podcast. The project (not a group) is a creation of Welsh songwriter Spencer McGarry and Great Enemies is a track that instantly caught my attention.

One of the reasons for this is that the main hook, “don’t make robots intelligent” has a rhythm that reminds me of the ’80s track I Eat Cannibals by Toto Coelo. Awesome!
